Ask to Receive

Ever wonder why some receive things and you seem to be on the outside looking in. I know I used to think that way a long time ago. And then I learned the value of asking to receive. I had a co-worker once tell me that the answer is always no if you do not ask. Jesus tells us to ask and we will receive.

“8For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” – Matthew 7:8 (ESV)

We have to be out there asking. We will not receive if we are not asking. Look at the words of Jesus above, “For everyone…”. Yes, that is you and me and all others.

The thing is, there is still the reluctance to asking. Oh, there is plenty of those who are out here demanding things or complaining, but that is not asking. Asking is what is coming from our heart and to fill a need.

I can ask for super bowl tickets, but that is not a need. I can ask for a Coach bag for Lori, but that is not a need. Our ask should be for our needs and come from our heart for God. We are to always be looking for how I can glorify God in what I am doing. I ask for those things that give me the chance and ability to do just that. Whether it is for food for sustenance or gas for the car to get to work, or a community group to lean on when times are tough. All of these are needs and lend to us the chance to bring glory to God whether in our own lives or in the lives of others through our thanksgiving.

Asking and receiving is not about monetary things. Asking and receiving is about glory to God. God will not deny us those things we need. Jesus tells us to pray for provision and in the above verse, He commits to fulfilling that ask. But in order for the ask to be fulfilled, we have to ask. We ask to receive.

What is your approach to receiving? Are you out here demanding monetary things? Remember that Jesus said “everyone who asks receives”, what if you were to remember asking for provision to bring glory to God and knowing that those needs will be received thanks to our ask?
