This morning I read the speech of Stephen prior to his stoning in Acts chapter seven. He was so outspoken with regard to God and His glory. He was not shy in telling the full story of history from the Old Testament and how that leads up to the coming of Jesus and how those who “announced” His coming were rejected and persecuted even before the same was done to Jesus.
God’s glory was visible on all of the men of God in the Old Testament. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, and Solomon all received God’s glory and displayed it for all to see. These men were the leaders of the past and when I look at their lives, by and large, they carried the glory of God with them everywhere they went.
As these men progressed forward in the name of God and covered in His glory, they gave way to the next generation. Men like Peter, James, John, Paul, Timothy, and Titus carried the glory of God forward after the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus. These men continued to bring the word of God to the people and continued to foretell of what would be next in our lives as followers of Christ.
Which leads to the now. There are great men of Christ that brought or bring the glory of God forward even today. Graham, Spurgeon, and Stanley are just a few men who are the carriers of God’s glory in this time. Each of them has or brings Christ to everyday living and we should be looking to them as those that share God’s glory.
I am a child of God, and that means that I have begun on the path of growing in His example. I have every opportunity to bring forth the glory of God in all that I do. Just as Abraham, Moses, Paul, Timothy, and Graham, I have the chance to let God’s glory shine for all to see. I have only to embrace my role in the presentation of His glory and take action. This does not mean that I will be elevated to the level of notoriety of those that came before me, and frankly that is not what I or anyone should be looking for, but it does not mean we won’t be a tremendous influence to those around us. It is up to each of us to let God’s glory shine and allow Him to work through us.
Where are you in relation to your letting God’s glory shine? Are you waiting for someone else to take the lead in bringing God’s glory forward? What if you were to be the one to take the lead and be then next generation to shine bright with God’s glory?
