“13And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 14I will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing land. There they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. 15I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord GOD.” – Ezekiel 34:13-15 (ESV)
What grand declaration is here in these verses. God will care for His flock in a way that only He can. He will gather up all of us that are His children and get us to the places where we are protected and can live in abundance with “good pasture”and “good grazing land”. He will provide for His people.
I am grateful for God and His protection, love, and provision. Knowing that I will be taken to the “good” places when I need it is such a great comfort. I am able to continue doing the work of God and not concern myself with what is to come or how things are right now.
Boy is it easy to say the words in the previous paragraph. It seems to just roll off the tongue and onto the page. The words are easy, the actions are difficult and really take work on my part. I may know, I also must act. When I am able to act, God takes His actions as noted in the verses quoted here. I am His sheep and He wants nothing but the best for me, I have work that needs to be done and that really all starts with trusting Him and doing as He commands.
Sheep are following creatures. They require guidance and looking after as they have little in the way of protecting or providing for themselves. As a sheep to God, I also require guidance and protecting. I am in need of where to graze safely and where to lie comfortably and where to find protection. God provides and it is up to me to lie where He guides me to in order that I may be safe and secure in Him.
When you are in the world, are you looking to protect and provide for yourself? Will you allow God to lead you to the protected and “good” places? What will it take for you to lie where God leads you?
