“1The fool says in his heart, ‘There is not God.’ They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good…3They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.” – Psalm 14:1&3 (ESV)
The “fool” is not referring to those that are lacking in intelligence, but those that are willfully acting against wisdom. Those that actively denounce God are those that are not followers of Christ and are “corrupt” and do no “good”.
“2The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.” – Psalm 14:3 (ESV)
Notice that those that are the “fool” and “corrupt” and do no “good” are the children of man. These are those that have not accepted the grace and salvation provided by God. These are those that are intent on going it alone. Again, they willfully act against wisdom.
4Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the Lord?” – Psalm 14:4 (ESV)
See here that they actively work against children of God. They persecute us that are acting willfully to accept the wisdom and understanding provided by God. We are those that are not “corrupt” and certainly do “good”.
I have to be careful as I go about this world and remember that those that are not of God truly do not understand. It is my job as one that does understand, to bring the gospel to those that do not. Remembering that they act out of a lack of knowledge and that it is not personal against me.
Are you one that understands? Are you like the “fool” who says, “There is no God.”? Are you a child of God whose job is to bring understanding to those that do not understand?
