Knowledge is something that we all can seek. A depth of understanding, ability to recall and teach others, and application over time. These are true knowledge and not just having information about things.
Having eternal life with Christ is enhanced and demonstrated through our knowledge.
“3His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 5For this very reason, make every effort to supplement you faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 2 Peter 1:3-8 (ESV)
I know that is quite a few verses and makes for a bit of a read. When you take the time to read through it, I was able to understand the value of knowledge and how to achieve it.
Once we have accepted Christ, we are His and now have eternal life. We still have work to do as I have noted many times in my writings and believe that it is one of the places that we miss a lot of the time. I know that for the longest time I skated by as a Christian. Believing that there was not much more that I could do other than attending church, making sure my family was there, and not shying away from letting people know that I was a Christian. The verses above indicate how we get to work and what it takes to immerse ourselves in doing the work of Christ.
We are tasked with many things to be effective as Christians in this world, and right in the middle of it all is “knowledge” as noted in verses 5, 6, and 8. It is up to us to take advantage of the resources we have to gain that knowledge and utilize it in our walk to demonstrate the great and mighty love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
When you walk through this world, are you skating by? Are you immersing yourself in God’s Word to know more? Are you expanding your knowledge to live the eternal life provided by your salvation?
