Have you ever learned something only to refute that learning by challenging the possibility of it being true? Depending on the program you subscribe to in determining your personality type, I am an Owl or Thinker. I am one of those that needs all the details in order to say that I know something. I do not really refute what I learn, only ask questions to understand.
Jesus healed the man born blind and the Pharisees grilled him to prove that Jesus was a sinner and had done wrong on the Sabbath day. This is a far cry from the man that was healed.
“24So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, ‘Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.’ 25He answered, ‘Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.’” – John 9:24-25 (ESV)
This man was ecstatic that he could now see. He knew that this man, Jesus was special, although why he was not sure. All he knew was that he was healed. Later in the account of the event, the man met back up with Jesus and believed in him once he learned who he was.
“36He answered, ‘And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?’ 37Jesus said to him, ‘You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.’ 38He said, ‘Lord, I believe,’ and he worshiped him.” – John 9:36-38 (ESV)
Are we more like the Pharisees who look to get answers that fall in line with what we want or like the man healed who believed once he learned? What would happen if we would marvel at what we learn because we now know?
