We cannot see the future, however we know our destination. God provides our destination of heaven. We are not given insight into the journey, but our destination is clear.
“13Then the Lord said to Abram, ‘Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred year.’” – Genesis 15:13 (ESV)
God did not pull any punches with Abram, in fact, it appears that God punched him right in the gut by telling him that his offspring will be servants for four hundred years. Tough sledding for Abram at this moment. Look at the next verse.
“14But I will bring judgement on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions.” – Genesis 15:14 (ESV)
God tells Abram the good news. Now here is the part that got me. How did Abram know? God told him. It is not written down for him to follow. No map or directions. But Abram believed and had faith.
We have it written down. We have a map and directions. The BIBLE is our guide and how we know. We only have to study to understand.
When you are wondering which direction you are headed and where to turn next, are you consulting a map? Are you looking at the directions? Are you using your resources to get insight into what is next? How we can know – “the Bible tells me so”.
