It is about what others see in you, and your relationship with the LORD that is importance, not that you are doing things for yourself and your glory.
I know, that statement seems a bit off in that I am saying to do things so people see something in you, and that you are do impact your relationship with the LORD. But, isn’t that the point. I should not do things for my own glory, but I should be doing them for the glory of the LORD and to build up my relationship with Him. And in doing so, others should see the change in me and be impacted by that change.
“7But we pray to God that you may not do wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed.” — 2 Corinthians 13:7 (ESV)
I do this for you and not for me. I am looking for you to see that change and the overcoming of the test so that you will be impacted for your sake and not for mine.
“5Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! 6I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test.” — 2 Corinthians 13:5-6 (ESV)
Paul is pointed in his writing to Christians. He is sure to let us know that we are to test ourselves and our relationship with Christ. We are to hold ourselves to the standard of His example. He also points out for us to hold our spiritual leaders to the test of their faith. Both of these go together as the spiritual leaders are the leaders of we the church, and we are the leaders of and bringers of the gospel to the rest of the world. We are to both test ourselves against the example of Christ for the sake of others.
What are you doing as relates to your faith and testing yourself? Are you testing for your sake? What if you worked to ensure that others see the testing in you so that you are able to share with them what being an example of Christ is?
