I find that it is difficult to proceed forward when I am certainly aware that there will certainly be resistance and hardship even before I begin. I find myself delaying the start to avoid having to deal with something that I am all too aware will be in the way.
“8I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” — Psalm 40:8 (ESV)
This morning I was directed to the 40th chapter of Psalm as I study the word “delight”. Here I found verse eight to remind me to delight in God’s will. And I was also reminded of the challenges that come with doing the will of God as I read through the chapter.
“12For evils have encompassed me beyond number; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head; my heart fails me.” — Psalm 40:12 (ESV)
As a Christian, I am not without challenge. In fact, I am likely to encounter challenges that non-Christians may not have to work. I have to remember that the life of a Christian is in the journey and that God will not forsake me nor will He abandon me in my time of “need”. I may not feel or see Him, but He is there, guiding, protecting, and comforting me through it all.
“17As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!” — Psalm 40:17 (ESV)
I am to delight in the will of God and not just in the comfort of Him. I have to continue forward as my word of 2022, “forward”, indicates. God’s will is for me and I have to remember, as noted in verse 17 above, that He is “my help and my deliverer”.
What is holding your back from doing the will of God? Are you hesitant at the challenges that lie ahead? What if you delighted in God’s will and the known that He is your deliverer?
